Goldberg, who is set to retire later this year, recently revealed that Triple H was the one who called him about his WWE farewell match. Back in October, Goldberg made headlines after a heated verbal exchange with Gunther at WWE Bad Blood.

During the show, Gunther began taunting Goldberg who was at ringside with his family. The Ring General’s personal insults pushed the Hall of Famer to leap over the barricade in retaliation. However, the security quickly stepped in to prevent a physical altercation.

After their heated clash in November 2024, Goldberg confirmed he would return to WWE in 2025 for his final match. His intense showdown with Gunther at WWE Bad Blood sparked speculation that the Ring General could be his last opponent.

The Hall of Famer welcomed the idea, admitting that there’s a tension that exists between them. Although the exact date and opponent of Goldberg’s retirement match remain unknown. Interestingly, Goldberg revealed that Triple H personally called him to discuss the retirement match, marking a major development in his farewell plans.

Goldberg revealed that Triple H called him to discuss his WWE retirement match

In an interview with The Ariel Helwani Show, Goldberg shared that he was surprised to receive a call from Triple H while working. He revealed that WWE’s Chief Content Officer reached out to him to discuss his retirement match.

He stated, “I was lucky enough one day to be on my tractor here, on the property, cutting the grass, and I get a phone call from Hunter [Triple H]. I was astonished. I hung up the first time because I didn’t know who it was. Once we had the conversation, I was extremely appreciative and honored that he would think of me. It was an interview that I did that he saw where I said I thought I was owed a retirement match and if I would still be up for that, and maybe let’s talk.”

He continued, “It’s a testament to something I did in the past because I deserve that kind of respect. We all know it’s a business decision at the end of the day. To what degree, nobody knows. I do believe that he was speaking from the heart and he thought if it’s something that I wanted, that I deserve it. It took them that long to call me. I wasn’t going to [beg for] it. I don’t work like that. If I had to go down like I went down in Saudi, then so be it.” [H/T: ewrestlingnews]

Goldberg had his last match against Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber 2022, where he suffered a loss. Now, as he prepares for his retirement match following his return to WWE, it will be interesting to see what the promotion has planned for the Hall of Famer and who his final opponent will be.
