WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg believes WWE overlooked his heated confrontation with Gunther at Bad Blood 2024 because of his WCW past. During the event, Gunther made personal remarks about Goldberg’s parenting.
Gunther’s provoking words led the Hall of Famer, who was sitting at ringside, to jump the barricade. Security quickly intervened, preventing a physical altercation. In November, Goldberg announced that he would have his final WWE match this year. Many fans expected him to face Gunther, given their intense exchange at Bad Blood.
However, both WWE and the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther remained silent on the matter. Goldberg, a WCW legend, believes WWE’s decision to ignore the confrontation stems from his history with the rival promotion.
Goldberg believes WWE ignored his feud with Gunther due to his WCW legacy
During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Goldberg mentioned that WWE never followed up on his heated confrontation with Gunther, possibly due to his WCW legacy.
He stated:
“There’s probably a reason for that—I’m a WCW guy. Man, they want to accentuate the John Cena tour and all that kind of stuff. If anything ever happens, you know, I’ll pop out of midair, do my thing, wipe my hands clean of it, and leave. Then they’ll be done with me. So, there’s a lot of truth to that. Come on, man, I’ll always be a WCW guy. Look at how they treated Sting.”
He continued:
“I was talking to Booker T the other day, and if you don’t get into the wrestling business wanting to be part of the pinnacle of the industry—which is WrestleMania—and, you know, pay-per-views, as they used to be called, then you’re crazy, right? I had goals to attain in WWE, but the reality is, when we were going head-to-head, we were kicking their ass, they were kicking our ass—it was back and forth, like a big heavyweight fight. They were the enemy, right? And I still believe, at the bottom of my heart, that at the end of the day, it’s still kind of that way, a little bit.”
Later in the interview, Goldberg expressed interest in facing Gunther in his final match. WWE’s plans for the WCW legend remain uncertain as he prepares for his retirement bout later this year.
