Will Ospreay announced his AEW signing in late 2023, but he made his in-ring debut as an official AEW star at Revolution last year, defeating Konosuke Takeshita. Meanwhile, Ricochet, whose WWE contract expired in June, debuted at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium in August.

Ahead of AEW Revolution, Will Ospreay took to Instagram to share his excitement about his first live television interview on Sports Central. He expressed gratitude to CBS & KCAL9 and teased that the full interview would be released soon. However, former WWE Superstar Ricochet reacted to the post with a bold claim. He stated that the opportunity was initially offered to him, but he chose to decline it through his agent. He wrote, “They wanted me first, but I told my agent to tell them no.”
Since arriving in AEW, both have faced each other twice in singles competition. Their first match ended in a no contest due to Konosuke Takeshita’s interference. In their second encounter, Ricochet picked up a victory over Ospreay.
