Gunther, the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion, made shocking remarks about his WrestleMania 41 opponent, Jey Uso. Jey stunned the world by winning the 2025 Royal Rumble, eliminating John Cena to secure his title shot at WrestleMania 41.
The Ring General dismissed Jey Uso as an unworthy challenger, stating that facing him didn’t interest him. However, last week, Jey made his decision and challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41. WWE officially confirmed the match on RAW.
Despite the announcement, The Ring General recently reiterated that he has no desire to compete against the Royal Rumble winner on the grandest stage of them all.
Gunther on facing Jey Uso at WWE WrestleMania 41: ‘I’m not interested’
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Gunther made it clear that he isn’t interested in facing Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41. He stated, “I’m not interested in wrestling Jey at WrestleMania, I was looking for somebody who is one of the last few remaining guys on the roster that I would say are maybe one step ahead of me, and it would have been nice to be in there with one of them, to bring them down one inch and make a step up.” (via Daily Mail)
However, he acknowledged that Jey Uso’s underdog victory at the Royal Rumble made him one of WWE’s most popular stars. With Jey’s strong fan support, Gunther believed WWE saw the opportunity.
The Ring General praised Jey Uso for his likable personality and strong connection with the fans. He even compared his rise in popularity to Daniel Bryan’s, now known as Bryan Danielson‘s Yes Movement.
He stated, “I think it’s good that it happened. But on the other side, I say stay away from me. I must have wrestled him, I don’t know, 30, 40 times, including live events. And I’ve got to give it to him, in general, he’s a very likable guy, easy to talk to, and very warm to other people, always very friendly and very nice. It almost reminds me a little bit when Daniel Bryan had the yes movement going. It’s a special situation right now. And good for him to be in that position right now. I think he deserves that. But like I said, leave me out.”
Jey Uso is determined to overcome the odds and defeat Gunter at WWE WrestleMania 41, even after facing multiple setbacks along the way.
