At WWE Royal Rumble 2025, Seth Rollins brutally assaulted former Undisputed Champion Roman Reigns. Reigns had delivered a dominant performance, making it to the final six in the Men’s Royal Rumble match.
Entering the match at the 16th spot, Reigns eliminated Bron Breakker, Sheamus, The Miz, and Joe Hendry, securing his spot in the final six. When Reigns faced off with his Shield brother Seth Rollins, Rollins took the opportunity to attack Reigns.
Both Reigns and Rollins tried to eliminate each other, which allowed CM Punk to capitalize and throw both men over the top rope. Rollins, frustrated, first struck Reigns with a Curb Stomp on the floor before engaging in a brawl with Punk. However, Rollins did not stop there he delivered a second devastating Curb Stomp to Reigns on steel steps.
On WWE RAW, Michael Cole announced that Reigns had sustained injuries, though WWE has not disclosed the details. Cole also informed that trainers believe Reigns will be out of action in the foreseeable future.
While Reigns’ absence is unfortunate as WrestleMania 41 approaches, it is hard to believe he will miss WWE’s biggest show. This has sparked speculation about whether the injury announcement is part of a storyline or if it is real. Recent reports have revealed the true reason behind the injury announcement.
Roman Reigns injury: The real reason behind his WWE absence
PWInsider reports that the reason behind the injury announcement is to explain Roman Reigns’ short-term absence from storylines. The report states, “For EVERYONE who has asked, my belief is the Roman Reigns is “out of action” reference made by Michael Cole was more of a way to explain his absence in the storylines short-term than anything else.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
Amid this, another report has emerged that WWE is planning a Triple Threat match between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk for WrestleMania 41. It is still unclear how Reigns will fit into the match since Punk is focused on the Men’s Elimination Chamber. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins will face Finn Balor next week where the winner will secure a spot in the Elimination Chamber match.
