Rey Fenix’s AEW Status: What Does Penta’s WWE Arrival Mean for His Future?

Penta El Zero Miedo made his debut on the latest edition of WWE RAW on Netflix, creating buzz around the status of his former AEW tag team partner, Rey Fenix. Reports surfaced months ago that The Lucha Brothers, Rey Fenix, and Penta El Zero Miedo, planned to join WWE once their AEW contracts expired.

However, AEW extended Rey Fenix’s deal through 2025 for his injury. Penta El Zero Miedo officially left AEW after his contract expired in December, which sparked interest in Rey Fenix’s future with the promotion.

The decision to extend Rey Fenix’s AEW contract despite his lack of TV appearances led him to post a controversial tweet. He voiced his dissatisfaction with the promotion’s treatment and called it “inhuman.” This prevents him from joining Penta in WWE anytime soon.

Amid this controversy, there’s another potential reason why Tony Khan might hesitate to release him from his contract. The reason could stem from WWE’s decision to schedule a Saturday Night’s Main Event show on the same day as AEW All In Texas on July 12.

How WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event could affect Fenix’s AEW status

Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, on his Wrestling Observer Radio, discussed Rey Fenix’s contract. He speculated that it could be extended based on the injury time he missed it could be 10 months.

When discussing the possibility of Tony Khan allowing Rey Fenix to leave the promotion. He acknowledged that it’s possible. However, he doesn’t expect it to happen, especially after the All In Texas is set to clash with WWE’s show. He stated, “I don’t expect it, not in this wrestling war, not when they just did that thing for July 12. I do not expect any favors from AEW to WWE this week, put it that way.”

In the midst of the controversy, Fenix’s merchandise has recently disappeared from the official AEW website. This is, in fact, concerning since he is still listed under the roster page.
