Fans who had been hoping to see this match for months finally witnessed it in Chicago. However, the match took an unexpected turn when Mysterio interfered. In recent days, Punk had been seen attacking Mysterio at WWE Holiday Tour live events. However, on the last day of the tour, Mysterio struck back at Punk, costing him the World Heavyweight title.
During his match against Gunther, Punk attempted to exit the steel cage for the win. Mysterio ran down ringside and slammed the door in his face. He then helped Gunther escape the cage, allowing him to retain his title. After the loss, Punk called out Mysterio for his actions.

WWE Superstar CM Punk recently reflected on the Holiday Tour Live events, thanking the fans and crew for the past few days. Punk took to Instagram Stories and shared a photo of his hometown, writing, “New York, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Chicago. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket to see us. Chicago, what can I say? I love you with all my heart. Been over ten years since I was able to wrestle in what I will always call the rosemont horizon. It is my privilege. Two million dollar houses, on our way to a third in Houston.”
He then expressed his gratitude towards everyone involved in making the event possible while taking a dig at Dominick Mysterio. “Proud of everyone on the crew who worked hard and made it all possible except little Dominick Mysterio who is a great t—,” he stated. He then proudly signed off the message by mentioning, “Chicago Made Punk.”
The upcoming edition of WWE RAW is set to take place in Houston, Texas, with Punk scheduled for the show. Thus, it will be interesting to see if he addresses Mysterio costing him the title or if he will focus on his future opponent — Seth Rollins.
