Seven years later, CM Punk returned to wrestling in AEW in 2021. However, his time in Tony Khan’s promotion became controversial due to a backstage altercation with The Elite and Jack Perry. After AEW fired him, Punk shocked fans by returning to WWE.
Despite his controversial exit from AEW, WWE fans embraced him when he made his return last year. Recently, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray revealed why fans remain so loyal to the straight-edge superstar.
Bully Ray weighs in why fans don’t care about CM Punk’s history
On the latest episode of WWE RAW, CM Punk and Seth Rollins engaged in a heated back-and-forth promo that eventually escalated into a brawl throughout the arena. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray talked about Punk’s recent promo on WWE RAW. He mentioned that Punk never came across as egotistical.
Instead, Ray felt Punk was just speaking his truth, sharing what he believed happened. He noted that Punk seemed at peace with everything, explaining how he helped Seth Rollins. Following sharing thoughts on Punk’s promo. Ray also talked about why fans love Punk so much. He pointed out that fans don’t care about his past; they just care that he’s back.
He stated, “All they care about is ‘CM Punk is back.’ They care that CM Punk fought so valiantly for a $50 cent bracelet with his wife and dog’s name on it, CM Punk is unapologetically CM Punk and that’s why the fans love him.”
Following the brawl with Seth Rollins, it was announced that the January 6th edition of WWE RAW on Netflix will feature the two facing off in a singles match.
