The 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena has sparked speculation about his return by dropping a major hint. During WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, the iconic Winged Eagle Title made a one-night comeback, grabbing the attention of fans and superstars alike.
Before the show, Triple H built excitement by sharing a clip of himself handing Cody Rhodes a mysterious box. With the caption “For one night only,” he teased the return of the classic Winged Eagle title. Rhodes, who opened the box, had a golden glow lit up his face, strongly hinting at the Winged Eagle title’s reappearance.
Reports later revealed that WWE had discussed bringing back the Winged Eagle Title. Even Cody Rhodes has openly stated in several interviews that he wants to bring back the iconic title. His efforts paid off at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event when he wore the classic title.
After defeating Kevin Owens in a hard-fought match, Rhodes’ victory was cut short by Owens’ surprise attack. He delivered a brutal piledriver before walking away with the Winged Eagle title. Following the show, Owens shared an old photo of himself holding the title and claimed it as “Mine.”
John Cena is set to begin his retirement tour in January. However, he now appears to have his sights set on the classic Winged Eagle Title.
John Cena hints at WWE Championship pursuit
John Cena, a 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, has held iconic titles such as the classic spinner title, the classic early 2000s WWE title, and the current title design. However, despite being a 16-time champion, he has never held the Winged Eagle title in his career.
It seems he now wants to add this title to his legacy. Recently, he took to Instagram and shared an image of the classic Winged Eagle Title, hinting at the possibility of pursuing the classic title.
It has been announced that the title will return for one night. With Owens still in possession of the classic Winged Eagle title and John Cena set to return in a few weeks on the debut edition of WWE RAW on Netflix, it will be interesting to see if he announces his plans to pursue the iconic championship during his retirement, especially after his recent tease.
