Kevin Owens has revealed that he is backing Finn Balor for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. This weekend, Balor will face Damian Priest and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
General Manager Adam Pearce made the match official on WWE RAW. Originally, the match was set between Balor and Gunther, but Damian Priest, who attacked Balor and The Judgment Day on RAW after Balor cost him his match against Gunther for the title at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames was added to the match.
Priest made his first appearance since Survivor Series: WarGames, targeting Balor and The Judgment Day. The chaos also included Gunther attacking Priest, leading to the announcement of a triple threat match.
Ahead of his own highly anticipated WWE Undisputed Championship match against Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens expressed that he is rooting for Balor to win the World Heavyweight Championship this weekend.
Kevin Owens reveals why he’s rooting for Finn Balor
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Kevin Owens reveals why he is rooting for Finn Balor. He shared that his ideal scenario for the match would be for Balor to win the World Heavyweight title. He highlighted their long friendship, noting that they arrived in WWE at the same time and have grown very close.
He stated, “[We’ve gotten] very close. I really do consider him like a brother. I would just love to share that with him.” Owens also talked about why he wants Balor to become a champion more than himself. He pointed out that Balor has faced setbacks, particularly after winning the Universal Title but never getting the chance to fully prove himself with it.
In 2016 at WWE SummerSlam, Finn Balor became the first-ever Universal Champion. However, he had to give up the title the following day after suffering a shoulder injury. This led to a new champion being crowned — Kevin Owens —, who won the title after Balor’s injury.
Since then, neither star has won a major title. This weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, with both stars in a major title matchup, it will be exciting to see if they can finally capture a major title.
