New Backstage Details Emerge on Rey Fenix’s AEW Situation

Recent reports have sparked controversy surrounding Rey Fenix and his status with Tony Khan’s promotion, AEW. He has not appeared on AEW TV since July 20, where he faced Tony Nese. Fenix wrestled in Mexican promotions afterward.

Reports emerged a few months ago that The Lucha Brothers, consisting of Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo, were set to join WWE when their AEW contracts expired, but Fenix’s deal was extended due to injury time until 2025. A few days ago, Penta El Zero Miedo officially left AEW after his contract expired. This news brought attention to his brother Fenix’s future with AEW.

In the past few days, Rey Fenix posted a controversial tweet about AEW, expressing dissatisfaction with how he was treated, calling it “inhuman treatment.” Fenix also stated he needed a doctor but was being ignored by the promotion. He wrote, “I needed a doctor and you ignored me for months.”

Amid the controversy, Dr. Chris Featherstone of Sportskeeda shared new details on Rey Fenix’s situation with AEW. The report was also Fenix endorsed as the most accurate report of his situation.

Featherstone reported that the Lucha Brothers would eventually reveal more about their time in AEW, claiming the real story behind Rey Fenix’s situation was a significant injustice. He also dismissed rumors about Tony Khan discovering the Lucha Brothers’ WWE talks, calling them “fake news.”

Rey Fenix confirmed this as the most accurate report. New updates have since emerged, shedding more light on the current backstage situation in AEW.

Backstage reports on AEW star Rey Fenix’s current status

Fightful Select, behind the paywall, reported that AEW was surprised by Rey Fenix’s recent comments. While they acknowledged a lack of communication between the two sides, AEW sources denied any “inhumane” treatment. It was confirmed Fenix had an issue with doctors not clearing him for competition.

Another source disputed Fenix’s claims, calling them untrue. AEW was reportedly upset when they learned the Lucha Brothers had spoken with WWE while still under contract with AEW. The report also revealed that the promotion had huge plans for Penta and Fenix. They, along with Pac, were set to win the Trios Championships at All In. While Fenix was injured, PAC and Penta were considered for a run in the World Tag Team Title tournament.

Plans for PAC, Rey Fenix, and Penta El Zero Miedo fell through following reports of the Lucha Brothers being in talks with WWE. While Penta has now left Tony Khan’s promotion, it’s unclear when Fenix’s contract will expire.
