WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin texted former AEW star CM Punk after the latter made his return to wrestling. In 2021, Punk returned to the ring after a seven-year hiatus, but his time with the promotion became controversial. Although he helped AEW boost its ratings and financial success, tensions escalated in 2022 when he called out the promotion’s EVPs, The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. This eventually led to a backstage brawl with The Young Bucks and Omega resulting in suspensions for involved people.
A year later, Punk got into another backstage altercation. This time, with rising star Jack Perry at All In. This incident ultimately led to Punk being fired from AEW. Following this, WWE programming teased and speculated about his potential return. After almost a decade, Punk made his WWE return at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 25, 2023. Nearly a year later, Punk revealed the text exchange between him and WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin.
