The rivalry concluded at Bad Blood 2024 when CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre and claimed a 2-1 victory in their feud. Following the brutal Hell in a Cell match, Punk and McIntyre went on a hiatus. Speculation has been running wild among fans that Punk could make a return at the upcoming premium live event, WWE Survivor Series: WarGames.
As of now, there is no update on Drew McIntyre’s return status. Recently, his rival CM Punk made a bold statement regarding his time in AEW. Punk, who spent two years in Tony Khan‘s promotion, had a controversial run. Due to backstage tension with The Elite, Punk did not have many supporters in the promotion.
The final nail came in August 2023 at AEW All In when he was involved in a backstage fight with Jack Perry. Despite the animosity between CM Punk and AEW, the former recently addressed his matches with certain talents during his time in the promotion.
CM Punk gets honest about wasting some matches in AEW
In a recent interview with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, WWE Superstar CM Punk surprising comments. He asked if there were any AEW wrestlers he wished he had a chance to tell a story with. Punk reflected on his time in AEW, expressing that he felt some of his matches were wasted on certain individuals.
He stated, “No. I feel like I wasted some matches on some people, for sure. That is what it is. Some people understand the business and some people don’t. I think everybody here understands the business.”
While CM Punk expressed his views on his career, it speaks volumes about the world of professional wrestling. Following his eviction from AEW, Punk made his return to WWE last November after almost a decade away.
