In the segment, the faction discussed their strategy for the tag team titles and why Damian Priest chose not to pursue the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Dominik Mysterio proposed that he could defeat Gunther for the title, prompting Carlito to laugh at his suggestion.
Carlito’s reaction puzzled the faction members. Raquel Rodriguez then asked Carlito what his role was, to which he replied that he brings the cool factor. He also mentioned that he would talk to General Manager Adam Pearce about arranging a number one contendership match for Dominik Mysterio against Gunther’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Later, in another backstage segment on WWE RAW, Kairi Sane and IYO SKY of Damage CTRL spoke with Adam Pearce about the women’s tag team division. Carlito then interrupted to seek an opportunity for Dominik Mysterio to challenge Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
This segment sparked considerable controversy when IYO SKY and Kairi Sane walked away, and Carlito entered after them. Then, he jokingly said he needed to “learn Chinese,” which led to him receiving severe backlash from fans. Recent reports have shared an update on the backstage reaction regarding the controversial comments.
WWE insiders confirm Carlito’s remarks was not scripted
The latest reports from Fightful Select indicate that WWE insiders claim Carlito’s line was not scripted. The promotion also removed this line from official social media clips of the segment. Additionally, many within WWE reportedly expressed disbelief over his comment. Several people in the promotion were unhappy about the line.
While there is no update on whether WWE will take action against Carlito for his comments, wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez revealed that IYO SKY and Kairi Sane reportedly had no issues with the remarks. They both understand that Carlito is currently portraying a fool’s character in the promotion.
