Former WWE Champion CM Punk and Drew McIntyre are currently embroiled in a heated rivalry that escalated when Punk cost McIntyre the world title at WWE WrestleMania 40. Punk didn’t stop there and continued to cause problems for McIntyre.
At the WWE Clash at the Castle in Scotland, Punk, serving as the referee, cost McIntyre another chance at the world title. Following the show, commentator Wade Barrett expressed his frustration with Punk’s actions during the post-show, calling out both WWE and Punk for not addressing his constant interference in McIntyre’s matches. Barrett even suggested that WWE should fire Punk.
Furthermore, Drew McIntyre made his way into the men’s Money in the Bank. After securing the Men’s Money in the Bank briefcase, he cashed in on the championship match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins. However, CM Punk once again interfered and attacked him, costing McIntyre another title opportunity.
In the post-show at the Money in the Bank, Jackie Redmond asked commentator Wade Barrett for his thoughts on the attack. While clearly frustrated, Barrett simply stated that he had already made his feelings clear regarding Punk’s constant interference at the Clash at the Castle, where he suggested WWE fire Punk. This response suggested Barrett’s patience with Punk’s actions may be wearing thin.
Since CM Punk returned to WWE, the promotion has capitalized on his popularity. They have re-released merchandise featuring his iconic designs from his previous run, but this hasn’t gone down well with SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett.
Wade Barrett expresses frustration with CM Punk’s merchandise re-release
WWE reignited CM Punk merchandise sales by re-releasing classic designs, including his iconic ‘Best in the World’ white t-shirt. Recently, WWE re-released CM Punk’s 2011 The Nexus t-shirt, which hasn’t gone down well with the original leader of The Nexus, Wade Barrett. Barrett took to X (formerly Twitter) to call out WWE for releasing the merchandise.
In late 2010, CM Punk joined The Nexus, ultimately leading to his kicking Wade Barrett out of the faction and taking over the leadership in 2011.
