Update on Britt Baker’s AEW Status

Ahead of AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024, an update about former Women’s Champion Britt Baker’s return has emerged. Baker, who suffered an undisclosed injury last year, has been absent from the ring since then. While she has teased her return to fans over the past few months, nothing has materialized.

Baker’s last match took place in September 2023 against Kris Statlander for the AEW TBS title. Since then, the former AEW Women’s Champion has been absent from programming. During her absence, stars like Toni Storm, Mercedes Mone, and Saraya have stepped up to fill the void.

As both AEW and NJPW are getting ready for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, President Tony Khan has provided a major update on Britt Baker’s status, leading to speculation about her return to the show.

Tony Khan teases Britt Baker’s return to AEW

Tony Khan, who appeared on the media call for AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, was asked about Britt Baker’s status. He expressed excitement about her nearing readiness for a return to AEW after being sidelined due to injury. Khan emphasized the anticipation of having top stars like Britt Baker back in action.

He stated, “I’m really excited about Britt Baker being close to ready for a return to AEW. She’s been out with an injury and was not cleared to wrestle. I do expect that sometime soon she could return. I would absolutely love that. I’m very excited about getting all of our top stars back. It’s been great having MJF back. So many top stars had been away. It’s going to feel amazing when we have great stars, Britt Baker is a great example, it will be great to have the Doctor back in AEW.”

He continued by saying, “So many other great former champions, including Jamie Hayter, Kenny Omega, Adam Cole, and many other great wrestlers we can’t wait to have back here in AEW. For me, I know that Dr. Britt Baker and fans all over the world will be excited to see her return. I’m glad she’s going to be cleared to return very soon.”

All Elite Wrestling, which has been struggling with injuries, also saw their former world champion MJF return last month at Double or Nothing. He is set to wrestle Hechicero this Sunday at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door.
