Ronda Rousey‘s upcoming autobiography “Our Fight,” is set to be released on April 4. It has already stirred controversy due to her candid criticism of Vince McMahon, the former WWE Chairman.
Rousey’s insights into the inner workings of the WWE are drawing attention. In her memoir, she has not held back in addressing McMahon’s ethics, both in personal and professional realms. She refers to McMahon as the ‘Emperor Palpatine’ of wrestling, a reference to the infamous Star Wars antagonist. Furthermore, she delves into McMahon’s on-screen persona and his real-life actions.
She stated, “It’s hard sometimes to know where the evil, unethical, slimeball character of Vince McMahon played out for the cameras ends and the actual questionably ethical, many times sued, and multiple times accused of sexual misconduct Vince McMahon begins. That blurred line between character and reality is a recurring theme within the WWE Universe.”
She continued, “[PLEs are] held in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, as well as now twice a year in Saudi Arabia, a nation that restricts the rights of women in a way that I’m certain Vince McMahon wishes he could.”
The timing of Rousey’s critique comes amid the ongoing investigations into McMahon. The investigations follow allegations of sex trafficking and multiple counts of sexual assault.
Ronda Rousey rules out WWE comeback
Ronda Rousey has made it clear that she has no plans to return to the WWE, citing dissatisfaction with how the promotion operates behind the scenes.
Rousey’s tenure in WWE spanned from the 2018 Royal Rumble to WrestleMania 35. She made a subsequent return for the 2022 Royal Rumble and stayed till SummerSlam 2023. Following her departure from WWE after SummerSlam, she competed in indie wrestling promotions, participating in a few tag-team matches.
In a recent interview to promote her upcoming autobiography “Our Fight,” Rousey was asked about revealing backstage insights in the book. She stated, “How much of an absolute sh*t show it is at the WWE because they can’t hold the story over my head and hold me hostage with my own career. I don’t need anything from them and I don’t intend on going back, so I can say everything that I think and feel while everybody else is still held captive by their organization.”
This candid revelation from Rousey emphasizes her independence and willingness to speak out about her experiences within the WWE.
