AEW President Tony Khan recently discussed the serious allegations against Vince McMahon. On January 25, 2024, Janel Grant, an ex-WWE employee, initiated a legal case against Vince McMahon, the former WWE CEO, accusing him of sex trafficking and abuse.
The lawsuit also mentioned an unidentified “WWE Superstar,” a “former UFC Heavyweight Champion” apparently negotiating, then subsequently signing with WWE. It claimed that McMahon shared Grant’s contact details with a previous WWE and UFC Champion, leading to inappropriate requests. Brock Lesnar was rumored to be the involved party.
In a Fansided interview, while discussing the forthcoming AEW Revolution pay-per-view and the “Big Business” Dynamite episode. Tony Khan was asked to share his views on Vince McMahon allegations. Khan stated, “I can’t comment on the terrible allegations against WWE right now. I think that’s something people are paying a lot of attention to right now with good reason.”
While talking about workplace safety, Khan said, “For us, first and foremost, is trying to create a safe locker room environment for everybody, women and men.”
He continued by saying, “We have a really good bond, I think we have a great lockerroom. And I think everybody knows there’s a support system there. There are a lot of channels. I think everybody feels very good about having a safe place and a safe workplace, and there are people you can talk to. There are people in the office, even on the wrestling side. For us, I think that’s the most important thing. In any office of any workplace, it’s just having a lot of people that will listen and want to make the company a good, safe place to work.”
Following the lawsuit, WWE has paused any plans involving Brock Lesnar. This also led to Vince McMahon’s resignation from the position of executive chairman of the board of directors at WWE’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings.
Throwback: Tony Khan’s jabs at WWE and Vince McMahon
Back in October, AEW Dynamite went head-to-head with WWE’s NXT lineup in order to vie for record-high ratings. To entice viewers, both promotions declared the initial 30 minutes of their broadcasts commercial-free, and AEW added a ten-minute overrun to boost their ratings.
AEW President Tony Khan utilized X (formerly Twitter) to call out Triple H and Shawn Michaels, urging them to tune in to Title Tuesday. Accompanying his message was an image bearing the words “Bald A**hole.” Not stopping there, Khan also targeted WWE Founder Vince McMahon’s allegations. When a fan expressed disinterest in watching Dynamite, Khan didn’t mince words in his reply and took a significant jab at Vince, who has been in various controversies. Despite AEW taking shots at the competition, WWE NXT still managed to surpass AEW Dynamite in the ratings.
