In the latest edition of AEW Dynamite, fans were treated to major hints regarding the final opponent of WWE Hall of Famer Sting. Fans witnessed a thrilling tag team match where Sting and Darby Allin faced off against Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs. The intense match concluded with both Hobbs and the Icon crashing through tables. Despite the chaos, Sting managed to secure the pinfall victory by draping his arm over Hobbs, sealing the win for himself and Darby Allin.
Following the match, AEW dropped a major clue, hinting at WWE Hall of Famer Sting’s final opponent in AEW.
The post-match excitement escalated when AEW commentator Tony Schiavone stepped into the ring for an interview with Sting. Schiavone, who was with Darby Allin and Ric Flair, asked Sting about his final opponent. Before he could respond, the theme song of the former AEW tag team champions, The Young Bucks, hit.
Matt and Nick Jackson, sporting their brand new thin mustaches, made a dramatic entrance to the ramp, engaging in a tense stare-down with Darby Allin and Sting.
Although no official confirmation was given, the implications for Sting’s final opponent became crystal clear. It appears that AEW is seemingly booking The Young Bucks as Sting’s final opponent. Furthermore, it appears to be a tag team match with Darby Allin by his side.
The Young Bucks have been away from AEW’s programming since Full Gear 2023, where they lost to Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega.
Sting is set to retire at AEW Revolution
The Icon has had a legendary career spanning over four decades. In 2020, he signed with AEW and has had several high-profile matches since. Sting has helped create numerous memorable moments in AEW with his tag team partner, Darby Allin.
During the October 18 edition of Dynamite, Sting announced his retirement plans, revealing that his final match with the Jacksonville-based promotion will be at Revolution 2024 on March 3, 2024, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina—the same PPV where he had his first match in 2021.
The Icon will also have his WCW rival Ric Flair joining him on his retirement journey, who signed a multi-year deal with AEW a few months ago.
