Miss Austen Trailer Sets Release Date for PBS Period Drama

PBS has shared the Miss Austen trailer for the upcoming period drama based on Gill Hornby’s novel of the same name. The series centers around Cassandra Austen and her reason for burning her sister Jane’s letters after the acclaimed author’s death.

“It’s a much-lamented yet historical fact that Cassandra Austen opted to burn her renowned sister Jane’s private letters — but why? The fictional miniseries Miss Austen takes Cassandra’s epic decision and uses it to invent an affecting story about the loves and losses of both Austen women,” reads the logline.

When is the Miss Austen release date?

Miss Austen is scheduled to make its debut on Sunday, May 4, 2025. The ensemble cast is led by Keeley Hawes as Cassandra Austen, Rose Leslie as Isabella, Synnøve Karlsen as young Cassy, and Patsy Ferran as Jane Austen. The upcoming show comes in time for the 250th anniversary of the celebrated author’s birthday this year.

The four-part period drama is directed by BAFTA winner Aisling Walsh from a screenplay written by Andrea Gibb. Both Walsh and Gibb previously worked together on the TV movie Elizabeth is Missing. Additional cast members include Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), Max Irons (The Wife), Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away with Murder), Jessica Hynes (Life After Life), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Kevin McNally (The Crown), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton), and Liv Hill (The Serpent Queen). It isproduced by Bonnie Productions, MASTERPIECE, BBC, and Federation Stories, with Stella Merz (Gentleman Jack, Renegade Nell) serving as a producer.
