Amazon Studios has dropped the first Dead Ringers teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series adaptation of David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller of the same name. The remake will be available for streaming on April 21, exclusively on Prime Video.
The video provides us with our first look at Oscar winner Rachel Weisz in the dual role of twins Elliot and Beverly Mantle, who was originally portrayed by Jeremy Irons in the film. This marks Weisz’s first major TV project after over a decade since appearing in BBC’s TV film Page Eight.
Prime Video’s Dead Ringers is described as a modern take on Cronenberg’s cult classic movie. Joining Weisz in the six-episode drama are Britne Oldford (The Umbrella Academy) as Genevieve, Poppy Liu (Better Call Saul) as Greta, Michael Chernus (Severance) as Tom, Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) as Rebecca, and Emily Meade (The Deuce) as Susan.
“The series follows Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twin gynecologists who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes – including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics – in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront,” reads the synopsis.
Dead Ringers is created, written, and executive produced by Alice Birch (Normal People), who is also set as the showrunner. Executive producers are Weisz, Stacy O’Neil, Sue Naegle, Sean Durkin, Ali Krug, Erica Kay, Anne Carey, Polly Stokes, James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall. It hails from Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television.
