Simon, who is best known for creating the iconic television series The Wire for HBO, will act as showrunner for We Own This City, which is based on the book of the same name by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton. The book tells the real-life story of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force, which in 2017 saw all eight of its members indicted and convicted for federal racketeering, as every officer was accused of shaking down citizens for money, lying to investigators, filing false court paperwork, and making fraudulent overtime claims.
