HBO has dropped the official Winning Time trailer for Adam McKay’s upcoming sports comedy-drama, centering around the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1980s. It is slated to premiere on Sunday, March 6.
The video, which you can check out below, highlights Jerry Buss’ game-changing acquisition of Lakers as he leads the team into its Showtime era. It also gives us a glimpse of the famous on-court rivalry between NBA legends Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, which garnered a lot of media attention and fan interest that helped saved the NBA from bankruptcy.

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is written and co-created by Max Borenstein, and Jim Hecht, who are also executive producing. The story will be based on Jeff Pearlman’s book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.

The sports drama stars John C. Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is executive produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick for Hyperobject Industries, with McKay also directing the pilot. Jason Shuman, Scott Stephens, and Rodney Barnes are also executive producing.
