Funimation announced on Friday that The Heike Story anime series will arrive on its streaming platform as part of the upcoming Fall 2021 anime season.

The Heike Story will arrive with other anime programs on September 15, an entire season ahead of its broadcast in Japan, giving fans the chance to experience the show very soon. The anime series comes from studio Science SARU and director Naoko Yamada, perhaps best known for her work directing K-On! and the Tamako Market anime series.

The Heike Story is adapted from Hideo Furukawa’s The Tale of the Heike. Set during the Genpei War (1180-1185), and centers on a blind young girl and traveling minstrel who is able to see into the future. Together, the pair meets the heir to a powerful clan, and are thrust into an adventure that affects all of history.
Funimation also announced that the series will feature a soundtrack from iconic composer Reiko Yoshida, with music by Kensuke Ushio. The series will star Aoi Yuki as Biwa and Takahiro Sakurai as Taira no Shigemori.

The Heike Story will release on Funimation on September 15, 2021.
