It’s no secret that Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac didn’t have a great time working on 20 Century Fox’s 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse due to the filming challenges that came with wearing the titular villain’s heavy latex costume, which also prevented him from being able to interact with some of his fellow A-list co-stars in the film. Adding to his disappointing first venture into the superhero genre is that his portrayal of Apocalypse wasn’t well-received and was criticized by critics and X-Men fans.
Due to that, many people have thought that he might not want to go back into that kind of genre anymore, especially after he had completed working on the second Star Wars trilogy. However, he’s now set to star in Moon Knight in the lead role.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Isaac has finally opened up about the reason why he signed on to star in another superhero project, following his not-so-great X-Men experience. He confirmed that Moon Knight‘s “incredibly unusual story” is what drew him onto the Disney+ series, and the opportunity to be able to do something that’s never been done before in previous superhero movies.
“It’s not so much about the genre of things,” Isaac explained. “It’s the people. And is there room to do something interesting in it? And sometimes there is, and you think there will be. And sometimes it turns out there isn’t. So with this – I love the people involved. I thought there was an incredibly unusual story to tell within the world of, you know, the superhero language. But we’re making something that’s quite different, and that doesn’t follow the same… not necessarily even logic of what a lot of superhero films do. I think because of that, I just found an opportunity to do something that I’ve not done at all yet, and to have a lot of creative collaboration with the rest of the people making it.”
