Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings Featurette Tells the Stories Behind the Songs

Netflix has released a behind-the-scenes featurette for their upcoming drama anthology series Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings. The video features Parton talking about the stories that inspired her iconic songs such as “Jolene,” “The Old Bones,” and “Two Doors Down” which will all be featured in the series.  Starring an ensemble cast led by Ginnifer Goodwin and Julianne Hough, the series will be available for streaming on November 22. Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings is inspired by the veteran singer-songwriter’s most iconic songs. Each episode will feature a different standalone story with a whole different cast. Parton is expected to appear in some of the stories and will begin each of the episodes with an introduction by talking or singing about the meaning behind each song.

The cast consists of 19 actors including Ginnifer Goodwin, Melissa Leo, Ray McKinnon, Jessica Collins, Camryn Manheim, Timothy Busfield, Patricia Wettig, Colin O’Donoghue, Willa Fitzgerald, David Denman, and Vanessa Rubio.

The series will feature Parton as executive producer and appearing in an undisclosed role. Each episode of the new anthology will take its cue from one of Parton’s songs. Warner Bros. Television, who produced the NBC specials Coat of Many Colors and its sequel, Coat of Many Colors: Circle of Love, with Parton also producing the anthology series.

Parton’s career kicked off in 1967 with her debut album Hello, I’m Dolly. Since then the prolific musician has gone on to release over 40 studio albums and countless #1 singles. Some of Parton’s hit songs throughout the years include Jolene, I Will Always Love You, 9 to 5, and many, many more.
