It’s been a long four years since we last saw the well-received stoner religious comedy Black Jesus grace our airwaves on Adult Swim and the wait is finally over. The cable network has debuted the first trailer for the long-awaited third season, with the announcement that the series will return on September 20.

The series, created by The Boondocks mastermind Aaron McGruder and Trailer Park Boys creator Mike Clattenburg, follows Jesus Christ as he has returned to the world and is living in Compton, California, working on a mission to spread love, happiness and kindness through his community with the help of his friends while his hateful landlord and a neighborhood homeless man work to try and expose him as a fraud.
Grand Theft Auto V‘s Gerald “Slink” Johnson leads the cast in the titular role, with Corey Holcomb (Wild n’ Out), Kali Hawk (Schooled), Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Andra Fuller (The Game) and John Witherspoon (The Boondocks) making up the supporting cast. Charlie Murphy starred in the first two seasons of the series as vengeful landlord Victor “Vic” Hargrove before passing away in the gap years following the second season, with McGruder and Clattenburg having to adjust the series narrative accordingly in the upcoming season to flow without the character.
