At this year’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Dreamworks Animation debuted two new trailers for its upcoming animated series. The first was the Fast & Furious spinoff, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, and the post-apocalyptic Kipo & the Age of the Wonderbeasts. You can check out both trailers in the players below!
Spy Racers follows teenager Tony Toretto (the cousin of Vin Diesel’s Dom) when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination. It’s one of many offshoots that the action franchise has spawned, which includes Hobbs & Shaw, a theme park ride, and a possible spinoff starring Charlize Theron.
Showrunners and executive producers for the animated series are Tim Hedrick (Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien). Vin Diesel and Chris Morgan will also executive produce. Fast & Furious: Spy Racers is slated to debut globally on Netflix later this year.
Also on the slate was Kipo & the Age of Wonderbeasts, which follows a girl who’s trapped in a post-apocalyptic earth. After spending her entire life living underground, Kipo is thrust into an adventure on the planet’s surface. She, along with a group of fellow survivors, embark on a journey through a vibrant wonderland where everything trying to kill them is downright adorable. Kipo will be voiced by Karen Fukuhara (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power).
Radford Sechrist (How to Train Your Dragon 2) created the series and will serve as executive producer alongside Bill Wolkoff (Once Upon a Time).
