Lorena Trailer: The Scandal You Know, The Story You Don’t

Amazon Prime Video has released the official trailer for Academy Award winner Jordan Peele’s four-part documentary series titled Lorena. The series will take a new look at Lorena Bobbitt’s infamous story from her perspective in time for the case’s 25th anniversary. Lorena will be available for streaming on February 15. Check out the video below!

On a sleepy night in 1993, Lorena Bobbitt sliced off her husband’s penis after years of abuse. John and Lorena Bobbitt’s dueling narratives exploded in a ravenous 24-hour news cycle, igniting a renewed battle of the sexes. Lorena became a national joke, her suffering ignored by the male-dominated press. But as John spiraled downward, Lorena found strength in the scars of her ordeal. The docuseries was helm by acclaimed documentary fillmmaker Joshua Rofé (Lost for Life) with Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment serving as producers.

Lorena reveals the hidden truths in the notorious case of John Wayne and Bobbitt and challenges the long-held narrative that surrounds this event. The docuseries provides a fresh perspective on not only Bobbitt’s story but how this event laid the groundwork for the modern 24-hour news cycle and increasing sensationalistic media coverage.

25 years later, the documentary series is a groundbreaking re-investigation of the deep moral issues and painful human tragedies buried at the heart of this infamous American scandal. Lost in the tabloid coverage and jokes was the opportunity for a national discussion on domestic and sexual assault in America.

It is executive produced by Peele and Win Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw, Rofé and Steven J. Berger for Number 19, Jenna Santoianni and Tom Lesinski for Sonar and is produced by Monkeypaw, Sonar Entertainment, and Number 19. The series will be a global release and available on PrimeVideo.com for Prime Video members in more than 200 countries and territories.
