Deadline reports that director Sam Raimi will helm a new original series for NewTV titled 50 States of Fear. Van Toffler and Gunpowder & Sky will produce the show with Tony DiSanto, who helped develop the project with DiGa Studios. Tommy Coriale will serve as executive producer for DiGa, along with Sam Raimi’s producing partner Debbie Liebling. It will be one of the first projects spearheaded by the upcoming streaming service.
While Raimi has an extensive history in film, including the Evil Dead franchise and the original Spider-Man trilogy, he’s produced a number of TV shows in the past, including Xena: Warrior Princess, Spartacus, and the small-screen adaption of his horror classic Ash vs. Evil Dead.
NewTV was founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg, with Meg Whitman running things as CEO. The NewTV service will be a streaming service with its own two-tiered subscription model in the vein of Hulu. The lower-priced version, at $5 per month, will have select advertising, while a commercial-free experience will run $8 per month.
