The Inn Crowd: NBC, Jim Parsons to Develop New Sitcom

According to Deadline, NBC has started developing a new multi-camera sitcom The Inn Crowd, which centers on a gay couple running a resort in a small town. Actor Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon) will serve as an executive producer alongside David Holden (Young & Hungry) and Todd Spiewak under the That’s Wonderful Productions banner. Eric Norsoph, That’s Wonderful’s head of productions, will oversee the project.

Holden will write the script for The Inn Crowd, which is inspired by Tony Horwitz’s 1999 New Yorker article. Horwitz’s article discussed the controversy surrounding the Inn at Little Washington, in Rappahannock County, Virginia, which was owned by Patrick O’Connell and Reinhardt Lynch. While their Inn attracted big-name celebrities, many opposed the duo’s ambitious expansion plans.

Like the article, The Inn Crowd will also look at how the gay couple’s resort creates a divide in the small town where they live.

That’s Wonderful recently produced A Kid Like Jake, which sold to IFC and stars Parsons, Claire Danes, and Octavia Spencer after screening at The Sundance Film Festival. The also executive produced the First In Human docuseries for Discovery Channel.

Parsons recently made headlines when it was revealed he was leaving CBS’s The Big Bang Theory after 12 seasons, turning down a multi-million dollar contract to keep the show on the air for two more seasons. Its twelveth and final season will premiere Monday, September 24th.
