Simon Rich and Kristen Schaal team up for family comedy series ABC
Four-time Emmy-nominated writer Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman, Saturday Night Live) has signed a two-year deal with ABC Studios, and immediately landed a pilot commitment for a family comedy headlined and produced by Kristen Schaal (The Last Man on Earth), according to Deadline.
Written and executive produced by Rich, the untitled family comedy is described as being told from a child’s perspective, and is about “working together, overcoming adversity and getting the monsters in your closet not to eat you.”
Rich makes the move to ABC from FX Prods., where he produced Man Seeking Woman from January 2015 to March 2017. The famed comedy writer has worked on a number of high-profile series over his career, including Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons and the upcoming TBS anthology series Miracle Workers starring Steve Buscemi and Daniel Radcliffe. He also provided additional story material to the Pixar animated hit Inside Out., and is currently penning a Willy Wonka movie for Warner Bros.

Schaal has carved a niche for herself in the entertainment industry with quirky parts in series such as the popular Fox comedy The Last Man on Earth, BoJack Horseman, 30 Rock and Bob’s Burgers. She will also reprise the voice of Trixie in the upcoming Toy Story 4.
