While Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will be reprising their roles of Cory and Topanga on The Disney Channel’s “Boy Meets World” sequel series, “Girl Meets World,” Rider Strong says he is not involved yet. Strong, who played Cory’s best friend Shawn for the seven seasons, took to his official site to talk about the new show and here is an excerpt:
Boy Meets World was a defining aspect of my life, and I cherish those seven years. It was never just a job on a personal level, many of my best memories and friendships were formed because of it.
So I am extremely happy for Ben and Danielle to be able to continue the story. At this point, I have no official involvement in Girl Meets World. There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, its own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters.
Its the next generation.
And I, for one, cant wait to see it evolve.
The new show is said to find Cory as a seventh grade history teacher, echoing qualities of William Daniels’ Mr. Feeny on the original show. Married to Topanga, the pair have a 14-year-old Son, Elliot, and a 13-year-old daughter, Riley Matthews. The latter part is the series’ central protagonist and is now being cast with the following character description:
“Indelible personality. An adorable girl on the cusp of whatever comes next in life, and wanting to rush into it head first. She is fiercely loyal to her friends, and spends most of her time juggling the obstacles that life throws her way… There is no obstacle in this girl’s world that can dampen her bright spirit and eternal optimism.”
