Primetime Emmy nominee Linda Cardellini (Mad Men, Bloodline) will star alongside Golden Globe nominee Christina Applegate (Up All Night, Samantha Who?, Bad Moms franchise) in the upcoming dark comedy Netflix series Dead to Me, Deadline has confirmed.
Cardellini will star in the 10-episode half-hour comedy as Judy, an outgoing free spirit who exudes both warmth and pathos as she struggles to deal with a personal tragedy. Judy desperately needs someone to connect with and finds a common ground and support system in Jen (Applegate).
Written by showrunner Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, The Great Indoors), Dead to Me is a dark comedy about a powerful friendship that blossoms between a tightly-wound widow, Jen, and a free spirit with a shocking secret, Judy. Applegate is starring -in her first television role in six years- as Jen, a poised and put-together woman with a dark sense of humor and an anger problem that she doesn’t necessarily want to deal with. Jen has been struggling to keep it together in the months since her husband was killed in a hit and run.
Dead to Me is executive produced by Applegate with Gary Sanchez’s Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay alongside Jessica Elbaum (I’m Sorry) of the female-focused Gloria Sanchez Productions.
Mckay and Ferrell have been involved in creating all kinds of content lately, from HBO’s business drama Succession to CBS All Access’ No Activity. They are also set to work with Netflix on the upcoming musical comedy Eurovision, which will star Ferrell.
