Deadline is reporting that Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) will be starring in a lead role in Cinemax’s upcoming drama series, Jett. Esposito will star opposite Carla Gugino (Wayward Pines, Gerald’s Game) in the series.
Written by Sebastian Gutierrez (Gothika), Jett follows fresh out of prison, world-class thief Daisy “Jett” Kowalski (Gugino) who is forced back into doing what she does best by dangerous and eccentric criminals determined to exploit her skills for their own ends. Esposito is set to play Baudelaire, a powerful crime lord.
Also joining the cast as series regulars are Elena Anaya (Wonder Woman), Michael Aronov (Billions), Gaite Jansen (Suspects), Chris Backus (Bosch), Gil Bellows (Patriot), and Violet McGraw (Love). Recurring roles include Jodie Turner-Smith, Gentry White, Lucy Walters, and Mustafa Shakir.
Esposito joins the project after starring as a series regular for two seasons on AMC’s Better Call Saul, where he reprised his infamous Gustavo “Gus” Fring character for the spin-off drama. He will be seen in the series’ upcoming fourth season. Deadline also notes that Esposito could return for the fifth season of Better Call Saul if it’s renewed and the Jett production schedule can work around it.
Gutierrez will direct the series as well as executive produce alongside Mark Stern, Stuart Ford, and Dana Brunetti. Stacey Levin will co-executive produce with Kathy Landsberg acting as line producer for the Global Road Entertainment produced project.
Esposito’s other recent credits include narrating Netflix’s Dear White People, a guest role on HBO’s Westworld, and the recently finished feature The Gift starring alongside Sir Patrick Stewart and Katie Holmes. The Emmy-nominee is also known for his role as Jorge in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
