Variety reports that Perdita Weeks (Penny Dreadful, The Tudors) has been cast as Juliet Higgins in CBS’ Magnum P.I. reboot pilot.
Juliet Higgins is the property manager of Robin Masters’ estate in Hawaii, putting her in direct contact with Magnum himself who works for Masters as security. Higgins is described as “commanding, confident, and tough, who uses sarcasm to deflect emotion and is hard to get to know.”
It’s an inspired casting choice, as Higgins in the original show was a man, played by John Hillerman. With Jay Hernandez as the new Magnum, it’s going to be an interesting new dynamic on the odd couple pairing that fans of the original grew to love.
Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim will be on writing and executive producing duties. The two are already working together on the modern Hawaii Five-0, which is also on CBS. John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will also serve as executive producers alongside Danielle Woodrow. Justin Lin is directing the pilot and getting executive producing credit. CBS Television Studios and Universal Television are co-producing the show.
