The Hollywood Reporter has revealed Mamie Gummer is set to join the highly-anticipated new season of HBO’s True Detective. She will portray Lucy Purcell, a young mother of two at the center of a tragic crime.
The third season of the anthology series is set in the heart of the Ozarks wherein a disturbing crime occurs and a mystery that deepens over decades plays out in three separate time periods. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will portray Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, while Carmen Ejogo will portray Arkansas schoolteacher Amelia Reardon, who shares a connection with two missing children in 1980. Scoot McNairy (Halt and Catch Fire) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) also star.
Gummer’s famed mom Meryl Streep has also recently been announced to join the HBO family. Streep will portray Mary Louise Wright, mother to Alexander Skarsgard’s Perry Wright in the second season of the hit series Big Little Lies.
The first season of True Detective starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in 2014 and was one of the biggest hits for the premium network due to its brilliant writing and phenomenal performances from its main cast. Its second season starred Colin Ferrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch and aired a year later. It did not receive similar critical acclaim as its predecessor, which seemingly led to the hiatus fans have been dreading these past few years.
Series creator Nic Pizzolatto is set to be the showrunner for Season 3 and will direct alongside Jeremy Saulnier. Both serve as executive producers along with Scott Stephens, Season 1’s Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, as well as original director Cary Fukunaga.
