NBC’s cult favorite series “Community” completed its third season this week with fans delighted to have already learned that Greendale Community College will be reopening its doors for a 13-episode fourth season. Tonight’s news is a bit more grim, however, as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that creator Dan Harmon has been replaced by David Guarascio and Moses Port (“Just Shoot Me”) as the series’ co-showrunners and executive producers.
Though the trade suggests that Harmon will remain aboard as a “consulting producer,” Harmon took to his own Tumblr with a decidedly less-encouraging update.
“You may have read that I am technically ‘signed on’ by default, to be an executive consulting something or other,” Harmon writes, “which is a relatively standard protective clause for a creator in my position. Guys like me cant actually just be shot and left in a ditch by Skynet, were still allowed to have a title on the things we create and ‘help out,’ like, I guess sharpening pencils and stuff.”
Both humorous and impassioned, Harmon’s full piece can be read by clicking here.
