Starz confirmed today at the Television Critics Association press tour that the second season of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” will start shooting this spring for a 2012 premiere.
The big question is who will replace the cancer-stricken Andy Whitfield in the title role. Starz says they have not cast the role yet but that the field of candidates is narrowing.
The “Spartacus” prequel, “Gods of the Arena,” debuts on Friday, January 21.
In other TV news, AMC president Joe Stillerman announced today that “Mad Men is definitely coming back for season 5, but don’t ask me when, because we’re not sure yet.” The network is currently negotiating with both series creator Matthew Weiner and Lionsgate.
