The trailer for Todd Haynes’ adaptation of James M. Cain’s “Mildred Pierce” is now online and viewable below.
The novel, written in 1941 and set in the 1930’s, deals with the titular Pierce, a housewife and mother of two who breaks from her unfaithful husband and tries to support herself and the children during the Great Depression.
“Mildred Pierce” was famously adapted by Michael Curtiz in 1945, featuring Joan Crawford in the starring role. Hayne’s take on the original text marks his first work since 2007’s Bob Dylan biopic, I’m Not There.
