TV Guide has learned that Kate Walsh’s best friend in “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff “Private Practice” won’t be played by Merrin Dungey (“Alias”), who starred in the role on the recent two-hour special that introduced the new cast.
The part has been recast with Audra McDonald (pictured), a four-time Tony winner. She will take on the role of Dr. Naomi Bennet, Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery’s confidante.
There are not expected to be any further cast changes coming before the show goes into production next month.
