A new Adolescence Season 2 update has come to light from Plan B Entertainment, hinting at what the future of the Netflix miniseries could be.
What is the new Adolescence Season 2 update?
Speaking to Deadline in a new interview, Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner said that they were already talking to Adolescence director Philip Barantini about what a new season of the show might look like.
Gardner said that the hope was to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive.” She wouldn’t divulge too much more, however. Kleiner did say that the hope is for co-creator Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne would be able to return for another entry in the miniseries.
Adolescence debuted on Netflix last month and quickly became a smash hit for the streamer. The miniseries follows the story of a 13-year-old schoolboy Jamie Miller, who is arrested after the murder of a girl in his school.
All four episodes are filmed in one continuous take, and the series became the most-watched streaming television show in the U.K. in a single week upon its release. The series has also led to real-life political impact, due to its focus on the “manosphere,” with members of the U.K.’s Parliament calling for the series to be mandatory viewing in schools.
“The series tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller is arrested for the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Graham takes on the role of Jamie’s father and ‘appropriate adult’, Eddie Miller, while Walters stars as Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe. Doherty joins the cast as Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case,” reads the logline.
Adolescence was directed by Philip Barantini from a screenplay written by Graham and Jack Thorne. Additional cast members include Faye Marsay as Misha Frank, Christine Tremarco as Manda Miller, Amelie Pease as Lisa Miller, Jo Hartley as Mrs. Fenumore, Mark Stanley as Paul Barlow, and Claudius Peters as Frank. The miniseries was executive produced by Graham, Barantini, Thorne, Dede Gardner, Brad Pitt, Carina Sposato, Nina Wolarsky, Emily Feller, Mark Herbert, Jeremy Kleiner, and Hannah Walters, with Jo Johnson set as a producer.
