Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira has finally opened up about her unexpected exit from HBO’s acclaimed teen drama series starring Zendaya. For the first two seasons, Ferreira played the role of Kat Hernandez, a teenage girl who initially struggled with body positivity.
Euphoria is created and written by Levinson, who is also executive producing with Zendaya and Drake. It is based on an Israeli miniseries of the same name. The series follows a group of high school students as they struggle to move through the worlds of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love, and friendship. Season 3 will feature the return of Zendaya as Rue, Hunter Schafer as Jules, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Dominic Fike as Elliot, Eric Dane as Cal, Colman Domingo as Ali, Martha Kelly as Laurie, and Chloe Cherry as Faye. Production on the next installment is currently underway.
Barbie Ferreira clears up rumors concerning her Euphoria exit
During a recent interview on The Viall Files podcast (via Deadline), Ferreira has revealed the real reason why she decided to leave the show. She confirmed that rumors about her walking out from the set due to a disagreement with creator Sam Levinson were false. She clarified that her exit was actually a mutual decision from both parties.
“It was a mutual decision. It was absolutely not just me,” Ferreira said. “Everyone decided that … there was nowhere to go, and that’s hard obviously because I’m like, ‘What am I going to do?’ But again, with acting, things happen all the time and you just have to have thick skin and make the right decisions for you in your career.”
She continued, “It’s a popular show, so people took it out of — I never walked off set. There was never anything like that. That was a whole thing, ‘She did all this,’ and I was like, ‘I absolutely never did that.’ You could ask the hundreds of people that were there every day. Fan theories are crazy, and most of the time they’re not right, but sometimes they are.”
The next installment is expected to open with a major time jump, which brings the main characters out of the show’s original high school setting. The coming-of-age drama is slated to make its return sometime in 2026. Season 3 will also include new cast members Sharon Stone, Rosalia, Marshawn Lynch, Kadeem Hardison, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten.
