Doctor Strange 2: Elizabeth Olsen on if Reshoots Altered Wanda’s Fate

Elizabeth Olsen recently spoke about the Doctor Strange 2 reshoots and her role as Wanda Maximoff. While promoting The Assessment, she said she didn’t take part in the reshoots. Olsen also revealed she pitched an idea to Marvel. Her comments provide new insight into Scarlet Witch’s arc and possible MCU return.

Elizabeth Olsen reveals whether she was in Doctor Strange 2’s reshoots

“I actually wasn’t a part of the reshoots,” Elizabeth Olsen said in an exclusive interview with The Playlist about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “I was filming [HBO’s limited series] Love and Death. So, what I did is what stayed. I think that there were a lot of reshoots, but not really pertaining to what I did.” Olsen clarified that the filmmakers established her character’s arc as the Scarlet Witch during the main shoot and made no changes during the additional photography.

She indicated that the team planned her portrayal of Wanda Maximoff as a villain from the beginning. “It was an interesting turn, but one that I was excited to take and and really kind of relish in it instead of tiptoe into it,” Olsen explained. “I thought it was kind of something delicious. I thought it was a fun opportunity.”

Reports say the reshoots focused on the Illuminati lineup and a revised opening. The original cut featured Scarlet Witch beheading the Earth-616 Karl Mordo, a scene later removed. Director Sam Raimi and writer Michael Waldron began work on the film without having seen WandaVision.

When asked about Wanda’s future in the MCU, Olsen shared a pitch she made to Marvel. “You know, when I think about my dream version [of Wanda], it’s like 50 years later, and I have white hair—such a big, massive white wig—and gnarly face of wrinkles doing like a Tracy Ullman thing,” she said. “And I am just like a creature that they find. And that’s how I imagine Wanda’s next journey.”

“It’s something I have quite literally pitched,” she continued. “Because it would be so fun to get to do that to me. I mean, I guess in one of the comics, she ages quite quickly, and I think those are the images that are implanted in my brain next because I haven’t done it.”
