Power Rangers Disney+ Show in the Works From Percy Jackson Showrunners

Hasbro has officially partnered with 20th Century Television for the development of a live-action Power Rangers Disney+ show, based on the original ’90s show called The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Due to its success, it has received a number of spin-offs for the past three decades since the original’s debut in 1993, including Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.

Who is involved in the Power Rangers Disney+ show?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz have entered negotiations to write, showrun, and produce the live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+. The project is expected to “reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.”

Prior to the upcoming Disney+ adaptation, Lionsgate and Saban Film adapted Power Rangers into a live-action movie in 2017, which starred Naomi Scott, Becky G, Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, and Dacre Montgomery. It was actually loosely based on the original show’s pilot episode. Jonathan Entwistle (It’s the End of the F—ing World) was previously attached to develop a new Power Rangers film and TV franchise for Netflix and eOne. However, last year, it was confirmed that these projects are no longer moving forward.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers originally premiered in 1993, adapting stock footage from the Japanese TV series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger. Following its premiere, the series became a cultural phenomenon, spawning a huge line of toys, action figures, and more, as well as a litany of spin-offs and films based on the series. Toho even shot exclusive some fights for the American adaptation, known by fans as the Zyu2 footage.

The original series ran for a total of three seasons and 145 episodes, before coming to an end in 1995.
