Will Smith has reportedly been approached about doing a Netflix roast live comedy special.
In May 2023, Netflix put out The Roast of Tom Brady. Hosted by Kevin Hart, the live comedy special saw comedians, guests, and athletes such as Nikki Glaser, Randy Moss, Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, and more poke fun at the former football quarterback.
Is a Netflix roast with Will Smith really happening?
According to a recent report from Puck, Smith is “one of a few people” that Netflix has approached for a follow-up to The Roast of Tom Brady — and, according to the outlet’s sources, Smith hasn’t declined the offer at this time.
“Would the hyper-managed star open himself up to blistering Nikki Glaser jokes about The Slap, Jada, the kids, all of it? Probably not, and so far, this is a very informal overture—it hasn’t even reached CAA or his management,” the article states. “But the Brady roast generated 22 million views in its first few months, and that special was only available in the U.S. Smith’s would no doubt be way bigger, and it could be exactly the kind of unexpected move that resonates.”
Smith’s publicist declined to comment to Puck and there’s been no official announcement from Netflix, meaning the news is not official and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Smith’s most recent movie was 2024’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which saw him reprise the role of Mike Lowrey alongside Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett for the fourth time. He’s got a number of other films in the works that are in various stages of development — including a sequel to 2007’s I Am Legend, a Sony Pictures sci-fi movie titled Resistor, and more. None of these projects have official release dates at this time.
His fifth studio album, titled Based on a True Story, is also scheduled for release on March 28, 2025, through Slang Music.
