Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot: Sarah Michelle Gellar Gives Promising Update

A whopping 22 years after the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded, the fan-favorite series seems to be closer than ever to making a return as a reboot, according to Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Joss Whedon-created show made its debut on the small screens in 1997 and instantly succeeded in amassing a dedicated fanbase. After a fruitful seven-season run, the show finally came to an end in 2003, leaving viewers wanting more. However, per the latest comments of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer leading star, matters around the show’s reboot are developing quite swiftly.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is ‘progressing probably faster than anticipated’

In a recent discussion, the 47-year-old actress noted that the team behind the series’ much-awaited sequel has already set up offices. Although, despite the encouraging signs, Sarah Michelle Gellar also urged fans to patiently wait for the project to reach completion.

While providing an update on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot to People, the Cruel Intentions star stated, “We’ve set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I’d anticipated. But it’s going to be a process, I think. To do it the way it needs to be done, everyone has to be patient with all of us, because this isn’t something that [will just happen].”

Gellar also praised the new crew members of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, especially lauding writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, director Chloé Zhao, and television executive Gail Berman. “I pinch myself every day when I get into these rooms, and I’m looking at Gail Berman, the Zuckermans and Chloé Zhao. It’s an incredible group,” she exclaimed.

The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer revolves around the misadventures of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s titular character, who juggles the desires of living a normal high-school experience with her responsibilities of being a proficient hunter of demons and vampires. Aside from Gellar, the leading cast also featured the likes of Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz, Nicholas Brendon, and Charisma Carpenter, among others.
