Paramount+ has announced the Landman Season 2 renewal for Taylor Sheridan’s latest oil rig drama starring Billy Bob Thornton. The renewal comes after the show had a successful Season 1 debut, with its premiere episode garnering 35 million global streaming viewers (based on Average Minute Audience and including CTV viewing). In addition, the first installment has also set records by becoming its most-watched global premiere and finale of any series in the streaming platform’s history.
What did Paramount say about Landman Season 2?
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks executive Chris McCarthy said in a statement. “The series has helped drive Paramount+ to new heights as the No. 2 SVOD in the U.S. for Original Hours Watched in Q4, alongside our other hit series Tulsa King, The Agency, Lioness and Dexter: Original Sin.”
Based on the Boomtown podcast, Landman is created and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. The ensemble cast includes Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, and Paulina Chávez, with Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña as guest stars. The series was executive produced by David Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin, Jason Hoch, J.K. Nickell, Megan Creydt, and Peter Feldman. It is a production by MTV Entertainment Studios.
“Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, the series is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs,” reads the logline. “Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
