House of the Dragon Season 3 showrunner Ryan Condal has shared some new exciting details about the next installment to HBO‘s acclaimed Game of Thrones spin-off. This comes after seven months since the show had wrapped up its 8-episode second season.
What did Ryan Condal say about House of the Dragon Season 3?
During a recent interview, Condal confirmed that production on House of the Dragon Season 3 is expected to begin “in a couple weeks,” as the creative team have completed the scripts for the next installment. In addition, he also teased the introduction of several major new characters, revealing that fans should expect to see “four major events” from the book get adapted into screen.
“We start [filming] in a couple of weeks,” He said. “As the actors embody the characters, it actually becomes much easier to write in a more interesting way, because you get to know everybody really well. For Season 3, there’s much more shape and depth to it right out of the gate, because you’re writing for people you know. There are some major new characters this season, but 85 percent of them, we already knew who they were, and it just makes it much more rewarding to write.”
Condal continued, “Season 2 is huge. Season 3 is huger, in many ways. There are, by my quick count on stage, four major events from the book that we get to adapt and realize in three dimensions in this season. That’s really exciting on a scope-and-scale perspective, and I think it’s the thing the show does really well. The things that we’re building are mind-boggling. But what I’m most excited about from a dramatic perspective is that we got to have a little fun this season, and there’s a conceptual episode, meaning that it isn’t in the traditional vernacular of what we’ve laid out as the structure of a House of the Dragon episode. It’s very character-driven, and I think it’s really great and I’m really excited to see it rendered.”
House of the Dragon Season 3 will once again feature returning cast members Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Daemon, Olivia Cooke as Alicent, Rhys Ifans as Otto, Steve Toussaint as Corlys, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Harry Collett as Jace, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond, Bethany Antonia as Baela, Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena, Phia Saban as Helaena, Tom Taylor as Cregan Stark, Tom Bennett as Ulf White, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne, and more.
The prequel chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens — the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. The spin-off is created by Martin and showrunner Ryan Condal, who are executive producing alongside Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, Vince Gerardis.
