Ghostman: Aquaman Star Tapped To Lead Sony TV Show About Casino Heist, Actor Gives Statement

Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been tapped to lead a new Sony television show called Ghostman.

Abdul-Mateen II is known for playing David Kane/Black Manta in 2018’s Aquaman and the 2023 sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. He’ll soon make his MCU debut in Wonder Man, which is expected to premiere later this year, and is also playing John Creasy in Netflix’s Man on Fire adaptation.

Per Variety, Abdul-Mateen II and his House Eleven10 production banner have signed a multi-year first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television to “produce scripted drama series for streaming and cable.”

First up is Ghostman, which is an adaptation of Roger Hobbs’ 2013 novel of the same name.

What is Ghostman about?

“The Ghostman specializes in making things disappear, but when a botched casino heist leaves millions in cash up for grabs, he has just 48 hours to clean up the mess—while staying ahead of someone who wants him dead,” the official logline reads.

Abdul-Mateen II said in a statement, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Katherine, Lauren, Andrew, Eric, and the excellent team at Sony Pictures Television,” said Abdul-Mateen. “House Eleven10 is a place where creativity is limitless, and we could not have found a better home to share our vision of creating boundary pushing and exciting stories.”

Sony Pictures Tevelision’s Andrew Plotkin added, “We are thrilled to have Yahya and his production team join the Sony family, Not only is he an incredible performer, but he is also a passionate storyteller whose creativity and vision will elevate every project he touches. His dedication to bringing complex, compelling narratives to life aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering unique and impactful stories to audiences worldwide.”

Abdul-Mateen II’s filmography also includes 2017’s The Greatest Showman, 2019’s Us, 2020’s The Trial of the Chicago 7, 2021’s Candyman, 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections, and 2022’s Ambulance. Additionally, he starred in HBO’s Watchmen limited series.

A premiere date for Ghostman has not yet been announced by Sony Pictures Television.
